Awkwafina
Awkwafina has been described as an American performer and actor who began her career with clever raps that tackled gender and ethnic identities from a an edgy, comical perspective. Her career then grew into Hollywood. Born Nora Lum to Chinese and Korean immigrant parents in Forest Hills Queens her first experience with music came in the form of the trumpet. Her classical, jazz and hip-hop education began when she was in her teens. While in the college years, she remained focused on her studies and took up a degree in women's studies as well as journalism. While she was for a brief amount during her time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were offered as well. Following graduation, she decided to focus on music. Her song My Vag which was her response to Mickey Avalons My Dick, became a huge hit across the Internet and later appeared on her first LP Yellow Ranger. On the album, there also were viral songs like Queef (body-positive) and NYC Bitche$. The song was specifically linked to the album Awkwafinas NYC, her 2015 travel guide. Apart from being a published author, her other career was singing. In addition to early shows like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films such as Neighbors as well as Storks. In the year 2018 she scored a number of notable roles that were a breakthrough, like Dude Ocean's 8, or Crazy Rich Asians. In June she debuted her debut film, In Fina We Trust.
