Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from the household, the actress was brought up by her mother, godparents and grandmother. While she was a small girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessional disorder and suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. She joined in the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized this school wasn't right for her. Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place at the third time made an application and secured a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall would go on to have frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford was not able to finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, that were added to her show in the year 1996.
